A school with purpose.

Fuqua School is a PK–12 independent school in Farmville, Virginia, dedicated to cultivating character and opportunity through a rigorous education and a nurturing community.

At Fuqua, students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 are challenged academically, supported personally, and shaped by strong values. Through small class sizes, close faculty relationships, and a broad academic program, students develop the confidence and critical thinking skills needed to succeed in college, careers, and beyond.

An Approach Guided by Four Strategic Pillars
Academic rigor and breadth

that challenges students and prepares them for what’s next

Varied and strong extracurricular opportunities

that foster leadership, creativity, and teamwork

Personal, high-touch attention

that ensures every student is known, supported, and encouraged

Character formation

that develops integrity, empathy, and a sense of purpose

Together, these pillars define the Fuqua experience — one that prepares students not just for academic success, but for meaningful lives.

Our Mission

Fuqua School cultivates character and opportunity through a rigorous education and a nurturing community that prepares students for lives of purpose.

From Our Community
Seven decades of purpose and community.
Our History

Seven decades of purpose and community.

Fuqua School was founded in 1959 as Prince Edward Academy during a period of segregation in Virginia. That origin is part of our history, and it reflects beliefs and values that stand in direct opposition to who we are today.

Over time, Fuqua has made intentional choices to evolve. We’ve reshaped our mission, expanded access and opportunity, and built a community grounded in respect, integrity, and inclusion. This commitment continues to guide how we teach, mentor, and support students today.

The Fuqua of today and tomorrow is defined by the education and community we provide and the future we are together creating — one centered on opportunity, belonging, and purpose.

Building the future of Fuqua.

We are strengthening and expanding our Upper School through investments in academic spaces, student life, and campus facilities designed to support growth for students in grades 7–12.

Preparation that extends beyond the classroom and beyond college.

While many Fuqua students choose to pursue college, the value of a Fuqua education is not limited to that path.

Students graduate with the ability to think critically, communicate clearly, manage their time, and take responsibility for their work — skills that translate directly into the workforce, entrepreneurship, military service, and skilled trades.

Through academics, extracurricular involvement, and daily expectations around accountability and character, students develop habits that prepare them to contribute meaningfully in any environment.

At Fuqua, success is not defined by a single path after graduation.

It is defined by preparedness — for work, for relationships, and for a life of purpose.
